Who is Fit für die Sek for?

For children starting 5th grade of primary school in August who could be getting better marks, are curious and are willing to take part regularly for two years.

How does my child get a place?

Children are recommended by their teachers. A follow-up conversation with the programme team decides whether the programme is right for the child.

When and where does training take place?

Every Saturday morning for two years, at the Kügeliloo, Blumenfeld, Hürstholz, Isengrind and Luchswiesen school buildings in north Zurich.

What do the children learn?

The focus is on German and mathematics as well as learning strategies. During individual learning, children get support with homework and test preparation. Cultural activities and outings complete the programme.

Who leads the training groups?

Each group is led by a head trainer and two to three assistant trainers. The trainers are future teachers from the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PH Zürich).

What role do parents play?

Four parent events are offered on an alternating basis over the two training years: learning success, leisure and new media, consumption, and puberty. They are led by parent and adult educator Gabi Woerlen.

What does it cost to take part?

The programme is supported by the City of Zurich and also relies on donations. For questions about taking part – including any costs – please contact the project team directly.

Is the programme’s impact evaluated?

Yes. Fit für die Sek is scientifically monitored and evaluated. The findings inform its further development and its implementation at additional locations.

Who is behind Fit für die Sek?

The non-profit association Verein Lernturbo, based at Kapfstrasse 28, 8032 Zurich. It launched the project in 2012.
